Community Spotlight – Skills for Living, Inc.
Melton & Melton takes a very active role in giving back to the local community, contributing our time to bring awareness to the charitable needs in the region. With this in mind, we would like to share with you information about Skills For Living, Inc. and our recent experience with the organization.
In late July, for the second year, a team from Melton & Melton participated in the Skills For Living’s “The Game of Real Life” youth program. The program is a 120-hour financial education, career discovery, and college selection and funding course consisting of a 20-hour reality simulation game. During this time, teenagers were taught the fundamentals of investing, budgeting, tax preparation and college planning.
“Being part of The Game of Real Life was both fun and fulfilling and at the same time demonstrates to the community that Melton & Melton has an active role in enhancing the education of the students that reside in the community it serves,” said Marisela Luviano, CPA, a manager for Melton & Melton.
“I received a phone call the very next week from one of the fathers whose son participated in 'The Game of Real Life' thanking me so much for volunteering our time to make a difference in the lives of these youth,” said Steven Drenth, CPA, a partner of Melton & Melton. “He said his son had a great time and that someday he might want to become an accountant. That phone call made me realize that our efforts are making a difference.”
