ALERT! IRS Issues Extension for Hurricane Harvey Victims
The IRS has issued tax relief to those Texas residents affected by Hurricane Harvey, including those in Aransas, Bee, Brazoria, Calhoun, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Goliad, Harris, Jackson, Kleberg, Liberty, Matagorda, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Victoria and Wharton counties.
The tax relief postpones various tax filing and payment deadlines that occurred starting on Aug. 23, 2017. Income tax payments due between 8/23/17 and 1/31/18 do not need to be made until 1/31/18. Payroll tax payments due between 8/23/17 and 9/7/17 are not due until 9/7/17.
Affected individuals and businesses will have until Jan. 31, 2018, to file returns with valid extensions originally due on September 15, 2017 and October 16, 2017.
The IRS will automatically provide filing and penalty relief to any taxpayer with IRS address of record located in the disaster area. This extension also applies to all workers assisting the relief activities and who are affiliated with a recognized government or philanthropic organization.
